George Lowe Joins
Lawn and Tennis Club

Don Campbell, General Manager of The Lawn and Tennis Club in Pinehurst, is
please to announce the addition of George Lowe as Head Tennis Professional.
Lowe, 25, comes to the club from Kalamazoo, Michigan, where he worked for the
Kalamazoo County YMCA. He is certified by the United State Professional Tennis
Association. Lowe joins Ryan Peterson, who was promoted to Director of Tennis.
They are joined in their teaching duties by Maria Sumner, Jordan Cummings, and
Don Campbell. Campbell has recently stepped down as Head Pro to take on general
managerial duties. “George brings a great deal of talent and enthusiasm to our
club,” said Campbell. “We searched nationally for a pro who could meet the
growing demands of the club. Of all the job applicants, George stood head and
shoulders above the rest. In the few months that he has been here, he has
already developed quite a clientele of junior and adult players.”
Lowe was born in Augusta, Georgia, but grew up in Portland, Oregon, where he
attended Valley Catholic High School. While at Valley Catholic, George reached a
USTA sectional ranking of #16 in the Pacific Northwest and captured third place
in the high school state singles tournament.
College tennis took George to Kalamazoo College in Michigan to play for the
Hornets. He played number two doubles, helping the Hornets capture their
sixty-sixth consecutive conference championship. He was co-captain during his
junior and senior years.
After graduating from Kalamazoo College in 2004 with a degree in Physics, George
worked as a manager for a tennis retail store and taught tennis at the local
YMCA. He also worked as a racquet technician for the USTA Boys 16’s and 19’s
Super Nationals. George made the decision to teach tennis as a full-time career
in late 2006, when he was certified by the USPTA and accepted a full-time
position at the YMCA.
While at the YMCA, George taught all age groups and ability levels. He coached
three travel teams while playing on a 4.5 travel team himself. He also headed
the popular Cardio Tennis, a program which offers a fun cardio workout while on
the tennis court.
“Taking this position at the Lawn and Tennis Club has been a great move for me.
I am excited about getting to know the members and the area,” said Lowe.
“Everyone has been so welcoming. Ryan (Peterson), Don (Campbell), and I are
working together to offer a top-notch tennis program. Maria (Sumner) and Jordan
(Cummings) have also been so supportive. I can’t imagine why anyone wouldn’t
want to live here.”
George can be reached calling the club at 692-7270 or by sending an email to
landtclub@pinehurst.net.
